1. Shoe Box- Barenaked Ladies

A key in the door, a step on the floor/ A note on the table, and a meal in the micro/ Note says Im in bed, please make sure that youre fed/If youre taking a shower, you can borrow my bathrobe/ When Im asleep I dream you move in next week/ I crumple the note and save it to put inside/Chorus:/ My shoe box/ Shoe box of lies/ Shoe box/ Shoe box of lies/ Its under my bed, its never been read/ Its in with my school stuff and my mom never cleans there/ From my first little fib, when I still wore a bib/ To my latest attempt at pretending Im someone/ Who's not seventeen, doesn't know what you mean/ When talk turns to single malts, or stilton, or/ Chorus/ Did somebody tell you/ This is how its supposed to be? / Or did you just find it/ And you dont want any more from me? / Chorus/ Was it something I said, or was it something you read/ Thats making me think that I should never have come here/ I can offer you lies, I can tell you good-bye./ I can tell you Im sorry, but I cant tell you the truth, dear/ And what if I could -- would it do any good? / Youll still never get to see the contents of

(References the concept of SBP in general. Also reminds me of how Moony tried to pretend that the first kiss didn't mean anything, and how he tries to be responsible and such)

2. Better Together - Jack Johnson

There's no combination of words/ I could put on the back of a postcard/ No song that I could sing/ But I can try for your heart/ Our dreams, and they are made out of real things/ Like a, shoebox of photographs/ With sepiatone loving/ Love is the answer,/ At least for most of the questions in my heart/ Like why are we here? And where do we go?/ And how come it's so hard?/ It's not always easy and/ Sometimes life can be deceiving/ I'll tell you one thing it's always better when we're together/ [Chorus:]/ MMM it's always better when we're together/ Yeah, we'll look at the stars when we're together/ Well, it's always better when we're together/ Yeah, it's always better when we're together/ And all of these moments/ Just might find their way into my dreams tonight/ But I know that they'll be gone/ When the morning light sings/ And brings new things/ For tomorrow night you see/ That they'll be gone too/ Too many things I have to do/ But if all of these dreams might find their way/ Into my day to day scene/ I'd be under the impression/ I was somewhere in between/ With only two/ Just me and you/ Not so many things we got to do/ Or places we got to be/ We'll Sit beneath the mango tree now/ It's always better when we're together/ Mmmm, we're somewhere in between together/ Well, it's always better when we're together/ Yeah, it's always better when we're together/MMmmmm MMMmmmm Mmmmmm/ I believe in memories/They look so, so pretty when I sleep/ Hey now, and when I wake up,/ You look so pretty sleeping next to me/ But there is not enough time,/ And there is no, no song I could sing/ And there is no, combination of words I could say/ But I will still tell you one thing/ We're better together.

(The most quintessential Shoebox song. It reminds me of the Mauraders, and all the good times they have together. The bit about there not being enough time is really sad ;-; because it's true)

3. In My Life- The Beatles

There are places I'll remember/ All my life though some have changed/ Some forever not for better/ Some have gone and some remain/ All these places had their
moments/ With lovers and friends I still can recall/ Some are dead and some are living/ In my life I've loved them all/
But of all these friends and lovers/ There is no
 one compares with you/
And these memories lose their meaning/ When I think of love as something new/ Though I know I'll never lose affection / For people and
things that went before/ I know I'll often stop and think about them/ In my life I love you more/ Though I know I'll never lose affection/ For people and things that
went before/ I know I'll often stop and think about them/ In my life I love you more/ In my life I love you more
(Another song that makes me think of the Marauders. It makes me think of Moony looking back on his life.)

4. Handsome Devil - The Smiths

All the streets are crammed with things/ Eager to be held/ I know what hands are for/ And i'd like to help myself/ You ask me the time/ But i sense something more/ And i would like to give/ What i think you're asking for/ You handsome devil/ Oh, you handsome devil/ Let me get my hands/ On your mammary glands/ And let me get your head/ On the conjugal bed/ I say, i say, i say/ I crack the whip/ And you skip/ But you deserve it/ You deserve it, deserve it, deserve it/ A boy in the bush/ Is worth two in the hand/ I think i can help you get through your exams/Oh, you handsome devil/ Oh, let me get my hands/ On your mammary glands/  And let me get your head/ On the conjugal bed/ I say, i say, i say/ I crack the whip/ And you skip/ But you deserve it/ You deserve it, deserve it, deserve it/ And when we're in your scholarly room/ Who will swallow whom ?/ When we're in your scholarly room/ Who will swallow whom ?/ You handsome devil/ Oh, let me get my hands/ On your mammary glands/ And let me get your head/ On the conjugal bed/ I say, i say, i say/ There's more to life than books, you know/ But not much more/ Oh, there's more to life than books, you know/ But not much more, not much more/ Oh, you handsome devil/ Oh, you handsome devil

(Makes me think of Sirius. And Remus with Sirius. Yep.)

5. Lily (My One And Only) - The Smashing Pumpkins

Lily, my one and only/ I can hardly wait till I see her/ Silly, I know I'm silly/ Cause I'm hanging in this tree/ In the hopes that she will catch a glimpse of me/ And thru her window shade/ I watch her shadow move/ I wonder if she.......?/ Lily, my one and only/ Love is in my heart and in your eyes/ Will she or won't she want him/ No one knows for sure/ But an officer is knocking at my door/ And thru her window shade/ I watch her shadow move/ I wonder if she could only see me?/ And when I'm with her I feel fine/ If I could kiss her I wouldn't mind the time it took to find/ My lily, my one and only/ I can hardly wait till I see her/ Oh lily, I know you love me/ Cause as they're draggin me away/ I swear I saw her raise her hand and wave (goodbye)

(James obviously, and his stalking loving Lily)

6. Simple Things - Belle and Sebastion

If you want me I'll be there/ A boy to deal with all your problems/ But part of the deal/ Is for you to feel something/ If you want me look me up/ I don't exist in usual places/ Subtle as the wind is grey/ If you want me you know where I am/ I saw your arms in a dream/ And there were blue veins blue/ Blue veins/ If you want me all you have to do/ Is ask a thousand questions/ Triplicate and file under/ "Simple things you ask to make a young boy sigh"/ Young boy sigh/ Young boy sigh

(About Peter)

7. "I Am A Rock"- Simon and Garfunkel

A winters day/ In a deep and dark december;/ I am alone,/ Gazing from my window to the streets below/ On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow./ I am a rock,/ I am an island./ Ive built walls,/ A fortress deep and mighty,/ That none may penetrate./ I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain./ Its laughter and its loving I disdain./ I am a rock,/ I am an island./ Dont talk of love,/ But Ive heard the words before;/ Its sleeping in my memory./ I wont disturb the slumber of feelings that have died./ If I never loved I never would have cried./ I am a rock,/ I am an island./ I have my books/ And my poetry to protect me;/ I am shielded in my armor,/ Hiding in my room, safe within my womb./ I touch no one and no one touches me./ I am a rock,/ I am an island./ And a rock feels no pain;/ And an island never cries.

(Moony's theme song, basically. It doesn't hurt that Moony is rocks ^_^)

8. Wrapped Up In Books - Belle and Sebastion

It was pretty bright, up on the rainbow bridge tonight/ I could see into your window although you’re far away/ You were racing in a car/ Beside a boy, you just don’t know if he is up for/ What you have in mind/ If he is up for what you have in mind / Change is on the cards, but this time it will be hard/ But I never want to leave you/ We’ve never had a fight/ You should never split a pole/ You should never split at all/ I wish I had two paths that I could follow/ I’d write the ending without any sorrow/ I will say a prayer, just while you are sitting there/ I will wrap my hands around you/ I know it will be fine/ We‚ve got a fantasy affair/ We didn’t get wet, we didn’t dare/ Our aspirations, are wrapped up in books/ Our inclinations are hidden in looks/ Summer’s hastening on/ I’m trying to get a feeling from the city/ But I’ve been unfaithful/ I’ve been travelling abroad/ We’ve got a fantasy affair/ We didn’t get wet, we didn’t dare/ Our aspirations, are wrapped up in books/ Our inclinations are hidden in looks

(Sirius + Remus)

9. Octopus's Garden- The Beatles

I'd like to be, under the sea/ In an octopus' garden in the shade/ He'd let us in, knows where we've been/ in his octupus' garden, in the shade./ I'd ask my friends to come and see/ An octopus' garden with me/ I'd like to be under the sea/ In an octopus' garden in the shade./ We would be warm, below the storm/ In our little hideaway beneath the waves/ Resting our head, on the sea bed/ In an octopus' garden near a cave/ We would sing and dance around/ because we know we can't be found/ I'd like to be under the sea/ In an octopus' garden in the shade/ We would shout and swim about/ The coral that lies beneath the waves/ (Lies beneath the ocean waves)/ Oh what joy for every girl and boy/ Knowing they're happy and they're safe/ (Happy and they're safe)/ We would be so happy you and me/ No one there to tell us what to do/ I'd like to be under the sea/ In an octopus' garden with you

(Other than the fact that the Beatles are very Shoebox-y in and of themselves, this songs immediately reminds me of Hogwarts. Granted, in that case it should be squid, but I suppose octopus is close enough)

10. Pictures of Lily - The Who

I used to wake up in the morning/ I used to feel so bad/ /I got so sick of having sleepless nights /I went and told my dad/ He said, "Son now here's some little something"/ And stuck them on my wall/ And now my nights ain't quite so lonely/ In fact I, I don't feel bad at all/ Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful/ Pictures of Lily helped me sleep at night/ Pitcures of Lily solved my childhood problems/ Pictures of Lily helped me feel alright/ Pictures of Lily/ Lily, oh Lily/ Lily, oh Lily/ Pictures of Lily/ And then one day things weren't quite so fine/ I fell in love with Lily/ I asked my dad where Lily I could find/ He said, "Son, now don't be silly"/ "She's been dead since 1929"/ Oh, how I cried that night/ If only I'd been born in Lily's time/It would have been alright/ Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful/ Pictures of Lily helped me sleep at night/ For me and Lily are together in my dreams/ And I ask you, "Hey mister, have you ever seen"/"Pictures of Lily?"

(I don't think this needs any explanation)

11. In The Mood - Glenn Miller Orchastra

Instrumental

(The GlenMiller one. The dah-nah-nah dah! dah! dah! dah! da dunnah dunnah, doodle oodle doodley doo, doo doo doo!dah nahnuh doodle oodle doo doodle oodle doo, doot doodle oodle doo doodle oodle doo, and then the samethree notes over and over.)

12. I've Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts- Monty Python

Down in an english fair, one evening I was there/ When I heard a showman shouting underneath the flair/ I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts / There they are a'standing in a row/ Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head!/ Give 'em a twist, a flick of the wrist/ That's what the showman said/ I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts/ Every ball you throw will make me rich/ There stands me wife, the idol of me life/ Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch/ Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch / Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch/ Roll a bowl a ball, roll a bowl a ball/ Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch/ I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts (they're lovely)/ There they are a'standing in a row (one, two, three, four)/ Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head! (and bigger)/ Give 'em a twist, a flick of the wrist/ That's what the showman said/ Now that I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts (da da da da da)/ Every ball you throw will make me rich (have a banana)/ There stands me wife, the idol of me life/ Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch (all together now)/ Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch (harmony!)/ Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch / Roll a bowl a ball, roll a bowl a ball/Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch

(Part 23)

13. Cemetry Gates - The Smiths

A dreaded sunny day / So I meet you at the cemetry gates / Keats and Yeats are on your side / A dreaded sunny day / So I meet you at the cemetry gates / Keats and Yeats are on your side / While Wilde is on mine / So we go inside and we gravely read the stones / All those people, all those lives/ Where are they now ? / With loves, and hates / And passions just like mine / They were born / And then they lived / And then they died / It seems so unfair / I want to cry / You say : "'Ere thrice the sun done salutation to the dawn" / And you claim these words as your own / But I've read well, and I've heard them said / A hundred times (maybe less, maybe more) / If you must write prose/poems / The words you use should be your own / Don't plagiarise or take "on loan" / 'Cause there's always someone, somewhere / With a big nose, who knows / And who trips you up and laughs / When you fall / Who'll trip you up and laugh / When you fall / You say : "'Ere long done do does did"/ Words which could only be your own / And then produce the text / From whence was ripped / (Some dizzy whore, 1804) / A dreaded sunny day / So let's go where we're happy / And I meet you at the cemetry gates / Oh, Keats and Yeats are on your side / A dreaded sunny day / So let's go where we're wanted / And I meet you at the cemetry gates / Keats and Yeats are on your side /But you lose  / 'Cause weird lover Wilde is on mine

(This song seems like it was written for Shoebox. The bit about Keats and Yeats and Wilde makes perfect sense- Moony's knowledge and love of books was on his side when he helped James, but it really wasn't on his side when he started having certain dreams. He also has a big nose. I also italicized the bit about crying because it really reminded me of Sirius at the funeral of James' parents)

14. Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk - Rufus Wainwright

Cigarettes and chocolate milk/ These are just a couple of my cravings/ Everything it seems I like's a little bit stronger/ A little bit thicker, a little bit harmful for me/ If I should buy jellybeans/ Have to eat them all in just one sitting/ Everything it seems I like's a little bit sweeter/ A little bit fatter, a little bit harmful for me/ And then there's those other things/ Which for several reasons we won't mention/ Everything about 'em is a little bit stranger, a little bit harder/ A little bit deadly/ It isn't very smart/ Tends to make one part/ So brokenhearted/ Sitting here remembering me/ Always been a shoe made for the city/ Go ahead accuse me of just singing about places/ With scrappy boys faces have general run of the town/ Playing with prodigal sons/ Takes a lot of sentimental valiums/ Can't expect the world to be your Raggedy Andy/ While running on empty you little old doll with a frown/ You got to keep in the game/ Retaining mystique while facing forward/ I suggest a reading of a Lesson in Tightropes/ Or surfing Your High Hopes or adios Kansas/ It isn't very smart/ Tends to make one part/ So brokenhearted/ Still there's not a show on my back/ Holes or a friendly intervention/ I'm just a little bit heiress, a little bit Irish/ A little bit Tower of Pisa/ Whenever I see ya/ So please be kind if I'm a mess/ Cigarettes and chocolate milk

(Remus on his relationship with Sirius, I suppose. About how the entire thing is so illogical.)

15. These Photographs - Joshua Radin

You're Sylvia Plath / As you drift from the bath. / I hand you a robe / And so it goes, / The moment'll pass. / You're Simone de Beauvoir / As you get out the car. / The way you read me, / No one can see me / Is you are. / And these photographs keep me alive. / Chorus: / Babe, here's your song. / Babe, it took too long /To find in your eyes / My best surprise. / You're Nina Simone / When you talk on the phone. / You sing to me / And I'm truly / No longer alone. / You're Mary Cassatt  / When people tell you you're not. /You're like a child. / All the while / I need you a lot. / And these photographs keep me alive. / Chorus. / And I wanna know what you know / And I wanna go where you go / These things remind me of / These things remind me of / These things remind me of you.

(This song just seems like it could be the way that Remus views Sirius. And it fits.)

16. Across The Universe - Fiona Apple

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,/ They slither while they pass they slip away across the universe/ Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind,/ Possessing and caressing me/ Jai guru de va om/ Nothing's gonna change my world/ Nothing's gonna change my world/ Nothing's gonna change my world/Nothing's gonna change my world/ Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes,/ They call me on and on across the universe,/ Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box they/Tumble blindly as they make their way/ Across the universe/ Jai guru deva om/ Nothing's gonna change my world/ Nothing's gonna change my world/ Nothing's gonna change my world/ Nothing's gonna change my world/ Sounds of laughter, shades of earth are ringing/ Through my open ears inciting and inviting me/ Limitless undying love which shines around me like a/ million suns and calls me on and on/ Across the universe /Jai guru deva om / Nothing's gonna change my world / Nothing's gonna change my world / Nothing's gonna change my world /Nothing's gonna change my world

(It fits, at least for me. Also, it's very very pretty)

17. I'd Rather Dance With You - Kings of Convenience

I'd rather dance with you than talk with you / So why don't we just move into the other room / There's space for us to shake, and hey, I like this tune / Even if I could hear what you said / I doubt my reply would be interesting for you to hear / Because I haven't read a single book all year / And the only film I saw, I didn't like it at all / I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you / I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you  / I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you / The music's too loud and the noise from the crowd / Increases the chance of misinterpretation / So let your hips do the talking / I'll make you laugh by acting like the guy who sings / And you'll make me smile by really getting into the swing / Getting into the swing, getting into the swing / Getting into the swing, getting into the swing / Getting into the swing, getting into the swing / Getting into the swing, getting into the swing... / (Getting to the swing...)/ I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you / I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you / I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you / I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you

("I will just have to get home as quickly as possible so I can do things to your mouth that aren't talking.")

18. Black Mountain - Isobel Campbell

I met a man whom I'll never doubt / Flew into the sun, our bodies on fire / Betrothed to a mate, pray it is not so /Invoke father time, then he let her go / Lie true lie true lie true lie true / Lie true lie true lie true lie true / Lie true lie true lie true lie true / Lie true lie true lie true lie true / I know a dog much blacker than night / Who lives in a house where nothing is right / All sorrow and loving riches at bay /All watching a few to the ... / Lie true lie true lie true lie true / Lie true lie true lie true lie true  /Lie true lie true lie true lie true  /Lie true lie true lie true lie true / Some dream of coins or some beauty's find / But I want the truth while I serve my time /Most complex and pain, I'll share it with you / The moon looks bright, so come say I'll do / Lie true lie true lie true lie true / Lie true lie true lie true lie true /Lie true lie true lie true lie true / Lie true lie true lie true lie true

(This song speaks of Sirius: "I know a dog much blacker than night / Who lives in a house where nothing is right ")

19. Carbon Monoxide - Regina Spektor

Carbon monoxide/ Soon I’ll go to sleep/ If I don’t got my socks on right/ They slide right off off my feet/As I walk-a, walk-a, walk-a, walk-a, walk-a, walk-a, walk/ Walk-a, walk, walk-a, walk, walk-a, walk/ Carbon monoxide/ As I take you home/ The first time I get my socks on right/ But I don’t have a gas mask on/As I walk-a, walk-a, walk-a, walk-a, walk-a, walk-a,/ walk-a, walk-a, walk-a, walk-a, walk-a/Walk you home/Yeah/ I’m so cool, I’m so cool, I’m so cool/ Walk-a, walk-a, walk, walk-a, walk-a, walk,/ Walk, walk-a, walk-a, walk-a, walk-a/ Walk you home/ Yeah/ I’m so cool, I’m so cool, I’m so cool/ Come on daddy x8/ Carbon monoxide/ Soon we’ll go to sleep/ No one will notice we’re gone/ Cause we don’t have a job to keep/ They’ll just say that we’re being lazy/ Sex crazed, sex crazed, ha-a-azy/ They’ll just say we’re living our whole life in bed/ And we’ll be in bed but we’ll be oh so very much/ Dead-a, dead-a, dead-a, dead-a, dead-a/Dead-a, dead-a, dead-a, dead-a, dead-a/ Dead-a, D-dead/Yeah/ But we’re so cool, we’re so cool, we’re so cool/ Dead-a, dead-a, dead-a, dead-a, dead-a / Dead-a, dead-a, dead-a, dead-a, dead-a/Dead-a, D-dead/ Dead/ But we’re still cool, we’re still cool, we’re still cool/ Come on daddy, come on daddy/ Come on, come on, come on daddy

(It's because of the reference to socks. Is it bad that I've come to associate socks with SBP, and the whole HP fandom in general?)

20. My Moon My Man - Feist

My moon my man/ So changeable and/ Such a loveable lamb to me/ My care my coat/ leave on a high note/ There's nowhere to go but on/Heart on my sleeve,/ not where it should be/ The song's out of key again/ My moon's white face/What day in the phase/ Is the calender page again/ Take it slow/ Take it easy on me/ And shed some light/ Shed some light on me please/Take it slow/ Take it easy on me/ And shed some light/ Shed some light on me please/ My moon and me/ not as good as we've been,/ It's the dirtiest clean I know/ My care my coat/ Leave on a high note/ There's nowhere to go/ there's nowhere to go/ My moon, the moon's my man (Repeat)

(Moony)

21.Werewolf - Cat Power

Oh the werewolf, oh the werewolf/ Comes a steppin along/ He dont even break the branches/ Where hes been gone/ You can hear his long holler from away cross the moor/ Thats the holler of a werewolf when hes feelin poor /He goes out in the evenin when the bats re on the wing/ An hes killed some young maiden before the birds sing/ For the werewolf, for the werewolf/ Have sympathy/ cause the werewolf he is someone/ Just like you an me/ Once I saw him in the moonlight when the bats were a flyin/ All alone I saw the werewolf and the werewolf was cryin/ Cryin nobody, nobody, nobody knows/ How much I love the maiden as I tear off his cloths/ Cryin nobody, nobody, knows of my pain / When I see it has risen that full moon again/ When I see that moon movin through the clouds in the sky/ I get a crazy feelin an I wonder why/ Oh the werewolf, oh the werewolf/ Comes travelin along/ He dont even break the branches/Where hes been gone/ For the werewolf have pity, not fear, an not hate/ cause the werewolf might be someone that youve known of late/ Oh the werewolf, oh the werewolf/ Comes travelin along/ He dont even crush the leaves/ Where hes been gone

(Appropriate, what with Moony's furry little problem and all)

22. Woodcut- Jenny Owens Young

I still got these fingers / left on this hand. / Take off your belt and I'll do what I can for you / you sure look like you could be some kind of harm. / And maybe it's true, / you're more gifted than most,  / you'll still be remembered by a notch in my bedpost. / Left in your wake, / t the break of the day that comes after. / There's noone above me / to stain my fierce hands. / No you dont love me, /don't say that you do / because you can't. /It would be my pleasure to sit here and talk with you all day, / but there's no part of me thats not wasting away. / We speak of these things, / promises that might be but never are. / Oh change is beyond me /I'm helpless to start. / Don't try to touch me, I'll just rip apart. / All the people and things / I wish that I knew how to care for. / There's noone above me /  to stain my fierce hands. / No you don't love me, /Don't you say that you do, / you cant. / Theres noone above me / to stain my fierce hands. / No you don't love me /d'ont say that you do / because you can't

23. Your Rocky Spine - Great Lake Swimmers

I was lost in the lakes/ And the shape that your body makes/ That your body makes/ And the mountains said I could find you here/ They whisper the snow and the leaves in my ear/ I traced my finger along your trails/ Your body was the map/ I was lost in there/ Floating over your rocky spine/ The glaciers made you and now you're mine/ I was moving across your frozen veneer/ The sky was dark/ But you were clear/ Could you feel my footsteps?/ And would you shatter, would you shatter?/ Would you?/Your soft fingers between my claws/ Like purity against resolve/ I could tell then there that we were formed from the clay/ And came from the rocks for earth to display/ They told me to be careful up there/ Where the wind rages through your hair

Love the songs. They're very fitting to SBP. Kudos on including "In My Life" by The Beatles, it's one of my favorites. :)

Oh no!! Apparently sendspace is blocked on my university's network. (File sharing/P2P is what the page said.) Funny, 'cause MediaFire and MegaUpload work just fine...
